A GlyphViewer project (<strong>.gvp<\/strong>\u00a0extension file) is an XML file that contains all the loaded images to your project, as well as any added translations or recognized glyphs and words. Basically all your work that you perform using the application is stored in this local disk file.<\/p>\n<div class=\"confluence-information-macro confluence-information-macro-tip conf-macro output-block\" data-hasbody=\"true\" data-macro-name=\"tip\">\n<div class=\"confluence-information-macro-body\">\n<blockquote><p>All your data is stored in the\u00a0<strong>gvp<\/strong>\u00a0file, e.g.<em>\u00a0myproject.gvp<\/em>. Make sure you do not delete this project. The file also have links to your local disk images, so make sure you do not delete them. The best way to do this is to actually keep the images in the same folder with your\u00a0<strong>gvp<\/strong>\u00a0file.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>We will try to make a short tutorial on how you work with projects. The first thing you need to do after starting the application is to\u00a0either open a project or to create a new one.<\/p>\n<div class=\"confluence-information-macro confluence-information-macro-tip conf-macro output-block\" data-hasbody=\"true\" data-macro-name=\"tip\">\n<div class=\"confluence-information-macro-body\">\n<blockquote><p>GlyphViewer comes with a\u00a0<strong><em>DemoProject<\/em>\u00a0<\/strong>that you may use to test it&#8217;s features. It is automatically displayed in the<em>\u00a0Recent Project<\/em>\u00a0list in\u00a0<em>Welcome<\/em>\u00a0page upon application start.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<h3 id=\"id-2.Workingwithprojects-Newproject\">New project<\/h3>\n<p>At any time you can create a new\u00a0<strong>empty<\/strong>\u00a0GlyphViewer project. This will always close any previous opened project. You can easily do this by clicking on the\u00a0<em>New Project&#8230;<\/em>\u00a0button\u00a0on the\u00a0<em>Welcome<\/em>\u00a0page or through the menu options. A dialog will appear:<\/p>\n<h4><a href=\"https:\/\/www.2glyph.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/gv_newproject.png\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-384\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-384 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.2glyph.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/gv_newproject.png\" alt=\"gv_newproject\" width=\"366\" height=\"226\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.2glyph.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/gv_newproject.png 366w, https:\/\/www.2glyph.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/gv_newproject-300x185.png 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 366px) 100vw, 366px\" \/><\/a>1 Project Location<\/h4>\n<p>By\u00a0default the project will be situated in in\u00a0<em>install_dir\/project<\/em>.\u00a0You can change the path at any time by either editing the text box or by clicking on the browse icon (blue folder icon in the textbox) to choose a different directory.<\/p>\n<h4 id=\"id-2.Workingwithprojects-2ProjectName\">2 Project Name<\/h4>\n<p>The name of the project will be\u00a0chosen to\u00a0create the\u00a0<strong><em>project_name.gvp<\/em>\u00a0<\/strong>file. This name will also be shown in the\u00a0<em>Recent Projects<\/em>\u00a0view in\u00a0<em>Welcome<\/em>\u00a0page.<\/p>\n<p>Clicking OK will create a new empty project. You will then be able to add images to it. It should be a good idea to keep all the images in the same directory as the project, but it is not required.<\/p>\n<h3 id=\"id-2.Workingwithprojects-Openproject\">Open project<\/h3>\n<p>You can always open any previous changed project. This can be done\u00a0by either clicking on the<em>\u00a0Recent Projects<\/em>\u00a0on the\u00a0<em>Welcome<\/em>\u00a0page, or the\u00a0<em>Open Project&#8230;<\/em>\u00a0button, or through the\u00a0<em>Project<\/em>\u00a0menu options. A dialog will appear:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.2glyph.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/gv_openproject.png\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-385\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-385\" src=\"https:\/\/www.2glyph.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/gv_openproject.png\" alt=\"gv_openproject\" width=\"353\" height=\"170\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.2glyph.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/gv_openproject.png 353w, https:\/\/www.2glyph.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/gv_openproject-300x144.png 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 353px) 100vw, 353px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>As you can see all that needs to be done is add the location of a GlyphViewer project. You can use the blue folder icon at\u00a0<strong>1<\/strong>\u00a0to actually browse for a\u00a0<strong>*.gvp<\/strong>\u00a0extension file to open.<\/p>\n<h3 id=\"id-2.Workingwithprojects-Saveproject\">Save project<\/h3>\n<p>One important aspect of using the aplication is that you should always save you changes\u00a0to your project file. This can be done easily by clicking the\u00a0<em>Save Project<\/em>\u00a0menu option.\u00a0<strong>Note*:<\/strong>\u00a0this will\u00a0<strong>overwrite you .gvp file so make sure you want to save your changes<\/strong>&#8230;<\/p>\n<h1 id=\"id-2.Workingwithprojects-Images\">Images<\/h1>\n<p>You create\u00a0projects so that you can\u00a0open and add images to GlyphViewer. One project can hold one or more images, each image may contain any number of found glyphs, words or built translations. By default GlyphViewer supports<em><strong>\u00a0jpg<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>tiff<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>png<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>bmp<\/strong><\/em>\u00a0any many\u00a0other image formats.<\/p>\n<p>Once you created or opened a project you can add an image to the project by clicking\u00a0<em>Add Image<\/em>\u00a0menu\u00a0option from\u00a0<em>Image<\/em>. You can also use\u00a0<em>Current\u00a0Project Images<\/em>\u00a0or\u00a0<em>Recent Images<\/em>\u00a0to\u00a0open previously closed images from this project or a previously opened project.<\/p>\n<h3 id=\"id-2.Workingwithprojects-AddImage\">Add Image<\/h3>\n<p>When you click on the\u00a0<em>Add Image<\/em>\u00a0menu option the following dialog will be shown:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.2glyph.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/gv_addimage.png\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-386\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-386\" src=\"https:\/\/www.2glyph.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/gv_addimage.png\" alt=\"gv_addimage\" width=\"373\" height=\"201\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.2glyph.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/gv_addimage.png 373w, https:\/\/www.2glyph.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/gv_addimage-300x162.png 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 373px) 100vw, 373px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>All that you need to do is enter a path to your image or use the blue folder icon to browse for your image.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Note*:<\/strong>\u00a0currently<em>\u00a0png, jpg, tiff, bmp<\/em>\u00a0image are added to the filters. Other image format may also work (an error will be displayed after loading if image format is not supported). You can browse for different image formats by choosing a different filter in the browse dialog.<\/p>\n<p>You can also add an image to your project using the\u00a0<em>Recent Image<\/em>s list from the\u00a0<em>Welcome<\/em>\u00a0page.\u00a0<strong>Note*:<\/strong>\u00a0clicking on the\u00a0<em>Current Project Images<\/em>\u00a0list will not add any more images to your project, it will just open an image already added to your project to your tab bar.<\/p>\n<div class=\"confluence-information-macro confluence-information-macro-tip conf-macro output-block\" data-hasbody=\"true\" data-macro-name=\"tip\">\n<div class=\"confluence-information-macro-body\">\n<blockquote><p>You can have the same image duplicated to your project and have different data (glyphs, translations etc) to each of them.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<h3 id=\"id-2.Workingwithprojects-RemoveImage\">Remove Image<\/h3>\n<p>At any time you can remove an image from your project. All that you need to do is to\u00a0select the image from the tab bar so that the image is shown in GlyphViewer and go to\u00a0<em>Image\u00a0<\/em>menu and click on the\u00a0<em>Remove Image<\/em>\u00a0option.<\/p>\n<div class=\"confluence-information-macro confluence-information-macro-warning conf-macro output-block\" data-hasbody=\"true\" data-macro-name=\"warning\">\n<div class=\"confluence-information-macro-body\">\n<blockquote><p>Removing an image from your project will cause all the data associated with the image (glyphs, words, translations&#8230;) to be deleted<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>You can also click on the close button right of the image name in the tab bar.<strong>\u00a0Note*:<\/strong>\u00a0this will\u00a0<strong>not<\/strong>\u00a0remove the image from you project, it will just close it from the tab bar. The image will appear again if you open the project.
